Bishop Charles Ellis III Fires Up Church of God in Christ’s Holy Convocation; A “Historic” Gathering as Two Pentecostal Church Bodies Renew Old Ties

Some observers called it a “historic” event. Two Pentecostal church bodies — the Church of God in Christ, led by Bishop Charles Blake, and the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, led by Bishop Charles Ellis III — came together on Friday night at the COGIC’s 107th annual Holy Convocation.

PAW’s Presiding Bishop Charles H. Ellis III preached at a packed-out America’s Center in St. Louis. A representative gathering of PAW Bishops and the Midwestern District Council attended the gathering in support of Bishop Ellis. According to the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc., “there is a longstanding historical fellowship/relationship that exists between the leadership of these two behemoth Pentecostal organizations . . . dating back to the Azusa Street Revival in 1906 Los Angeles.”

Bishop Ellis’ message was titled, “It’s Pressing Time!” from Philippians 3:10-14. He said, “Sometimes we get to a place in God where we think we don’t have to press anymore. But no matter our position in the church we always have to press towards the mark!… After you’ve suffered a while you have to press forward!”

PAW leaders who attended in support of Ellis and the fellowship with the Church of God in Christ include: 1st Assistant Presiding Bishop Richard Young, 2nd Assistant Presiding Bishop Theodore Brooks, Midwest District Bishop Larry Jones, Canadian District Bishop Mark Tolbert, Tri-States Bishop Lance Foster, Southern California Bishop Robert Douglas, Hawaii Bishop A. Glenn Brady, Global Missions Bishop James Gaiters, South African Bishop J.D. Guthrie, and PAW General Secretary Donald Golder.

The Church of God in Christ’s Holy Convocation runs until November 12th, 2014. The event is being streamed live online at BCNN3.TV and GLBN.TV.
