A Texas marriage was saved when a gun the wife aimed at her husband’s chest jammed as she pulled the trigger.
Tempie Strickland, 80, got into a furious fight Sunday with her husband, 73, for the way he talked to her and his late nights out.
So the Fort Worth resident grabbed a revolver, pointed it straight at him — and squeezed.
The faulty gun spared Sterling Strickland’s life.
Police arrested Tempie Strickland for her heated actions and charged her with attempted murder, Officer Sharron Neal, a Fort Worth police spokeswoman, told The News.
The couple is currently apart as Tempie Strickland is being held at the Mansfield Jail on $100,000 bail, according to the facility.
Neal said she did not know how long the couple has been married.
The argument had grown very heated and Tempie Strickland thought about striking him, but because her husband is so much larger, she decided to use a gun rather than starting a physical fight, Neal said.
So she went to the couple’s bedroom, retrieved the revolver and aimed to shoot her husband in the chest instead, Neal said.
Sterling Strickland actually told police he did not want his wife to be arrested, but under Texas law an officer is required to make an arrest in a domestic violence situation.
Police did not release any additional information on the incident.
The listed phone number for the couple is disconnected.
