Is Jamal Bryant Taking Up the Mantle as the Leader of the “Social Gospel Movement” from Al Sharpton?

It is good to see Jamal Bryant, pastor of Empowerment Temple in Baltimore, Donte Hickman of the Southern Baptist Church, and Pastor Frank Reid, pastor of Bethel AME Church, out in public trying to bring peace and order back to the city after it has been affected by riots, looting, and violent protests. What these pastors along with other ministers are doing is what all Christian ministers should be doing when their cities are affected by crime, violence, and unrest.

Preachers and church people should be at the forefront trying to bring peace and order to their communities, and most importantly, helping people see how their lives can be changed through Jesus Christ. Many of the great civil rights leaders of the 50s and 60s — King, Abernathy, Shuttlesworth, Lowery, and others — were ministers of the Gospel whose concerns for society were shaped by the words and deeds of Jesus Christ.

We encourage Pastor Jamal Bryant and the other pastors to preach a clear presentation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ first, try to get people saved, baptized, and discipled, and then try to solve the social problems of the community because Jesus is still the answer for the world today.

We also want to encourage Pastor Jamal Bryant, Pastor Donte Hickman, Pastor Frank Reid and other ministers to not get weary in well-doing and to know that we are praying for you.
