“All my past albums we did were covers that Kurt Carr updated,” said Ami Rushes, a very versatile Gospel singer, about her fifth album release. “I thought it was time for original music. So I got with Kurt and enlisted songwriters from all over the world.”
The result is ten Contemporary Gospel songs that not only show Rushes can sing any type Gospel style, but it shows Carr’s training in Classical music. Kurt is the director of West Los Angeles Church of God in Christ’s choir, where Ami is a long time member. The “Stand Up For Jesus” album release gives 10% of its proceeds to the church’s Save Africa’s Children Charity Foundation that feeds over 200,000 children in 400 orphanages throughout 21 nations in Africa.
“I’m excited about the title, ‘Stand Up for Jesus’,” said Ami. “I want to start a conversation – ‘are you standing up for Jesus?’ and if so what are you doing?”
Ami Rushes debut album was in 2006 titled “Covering” and she is onto her 5th project distributed on the Central South Distribution imprint. My favorite cuts on the album include ”By His Stripes” a heartfelt song of love and gratitude; “It’s Alright, It’s Okay” which offers a bit of Jazz flavor with Rushes vocally; “Got a Feeling” for its horn support which gives it that Big Band era feel, and in end it changes and takes you to church; the title track “Stand Up For Jesus” is a great Praise & Worship selection with horn support that adds that Big Band sound, and “God Did It” because of its foot-stomping Praise & Worship sound.
Ami Rushes is about to go on a church and radio “Stand Up For Jesus” tour, and she will be performing at the “I Love the Music” conference in Cincinnati.
